* All the discussion about crashing old cars that came up after the IIHS ‘59 Chevy incident still has me wary about posting links like this, but back in the 1950s, who thought Deuces would be collectible, right? Dave’s Hot Rods and Jalopies blog has some pics from that time, and Clunkbucket has a roundup of a more modern equivalent, the Crash Nationals . * BRE built some awesome Datsun racers, among them a 240Z for Peter Brock to race in the 1972 Baja 500 (which doesn’t seem that unusua

The hot rods all come out as the weather gets warm. These are old inexpensive autos which have been restored and changed. Frequently they had several parts replaced including the engine, transmission, and brakes. There are multiple places in the US where hot rods are really popular. Many times therewill be meetings and clubs where people can meet to share their passion for these cars. Fords from the 1930s and 1940s are frequently used to make hotrods . This recognition is due in part to

MediaThe Epic Final Fantasy XIII TGS TrailerBy Mike Fahey on September 29, 2009 at 2:20 AM Thrilling combat, transforming hot rods, and enough drama to fill your average American high school, all in this Tokyo Game Show trailer for Final Fantasy XIII.After the unwelcome real-time turn that Final Fantasy XII took and the fact that Final Fantasy XI completely doesn’t count, I am more than ready for a return to more tradition FF values. This trailer is very encouraging. The battles look amazing, an

When we say amphibious car, you think of the little weenie 1960s Amphicars. They are neat little creatures but are not all that great as cars and frankly worse as boats. The creations by WaterCar, however are a different story altogether. These are hot rods on land and sea. Sporting Corvette engines (of which power level you choose) and high performance Dominator Jets, on land, these things will run 12s at the drag strip and they’ll plane over the water at nearly 60 knots. They have a couple

Vintage Educational Driving Resources Driving Tips DVD 1950s

This is a classic 1950’s driving etiquette film. The deadpan narrator discusses all aspects of proper and improper automobile operation: being pulled over, littering, following signals. The film is jam packed with vintage 50’s cars and hot rods, as well as signs and other cultural signifiers. There’s also dated advice about picking up hitchhikers and how they may take advantage of the driver. A fun two part series that offers timeless advice, Driving Tips is a good classic video.

* I don’t want to make this a regular feature of the Saturday Four-Links, but this is the third week in a row we’ve come across a stolen car while putting the Four-Links together. In this case, it’s a 1987 Citroën 2CV , taken late last month from Rossendale, Lancashire, UK. There is a reward. * Even though our cash for clunkers program is over, Britain’s appears to still be going on, and one of the cars turned in was this 1958 Morris Minor (Britain’s program had no upper age limit for c
